This video lays out a wonderful explanation of what essentially is the situation we find ourselves in now -- an executive branch given virtually-monarchical powers to run and expand the American Empire, rubber-stamped by a complacent and corrupt congress, and supported by the courts.
To end with a question: What are your thoughts on the policies of the last eight years? Was it an executive coup against the constitution, as Mr. Ellsberg suggests, or perhaps something else?

I'm confused.
ReplyDeleteIf His Sovereign Majesty Obama I has all the of the "monarchical" (I do hope one of his children take over next, otherwise I might question why "dictatorial" would not suffice here) powers attributed to him by his office and corrupt legislative branch, why hasn't his health care reform bill been passed yet? It would appear that Congress is but a trivial institution in comparison with our absolute monarchy.
It would also stand to reason that our beloved monarch, who is "supported by the courts" (E. Manak. Blog post. See above) would not have publicly chastised the most prominent juidicial institution for recognizing corporations as people, a decision that he seemingly disagrees with.
Maybe, one might consider the possibility that the exapnsion of the federal government under George W. Bush was a result of a unified Republican party in control of Congress during a crisis after Septmeber 11. The most comparable event before this being, of course, the expansion of the Federal Government and the Executive branch under F.D.R. and the Democrats in the 1930s. Go figure.
Just because the Democraps are too politically inept to take full advantage of the groundwork that is laid to them (for examples of Democrapic incompetence, see Health Care Reform, Bank Regulation, Closing the Torture Centers at Guantanamo, etc, etc) does NOT change the fact that the groundwork has been laid under Bush for an Imperial Presidency, groundwork approved by Congress and the Courts. Perhaps Obama will not take power, but what about 2012? Or, if by some miracle Obama wins re-election, 2016? What if it is General Petraeus who takes us into a truly autocratic government? Or (dare I suggest it) Premier Palin?
